iRide Alaska FAQ: Your Juneau Tour Safety and Info
Essential Travel Tips for Your Alaskan Segway & eBike Adventure
GENERAL QUESTIONS
What is the best time to visit Alaska for a tour?
The best time to visit Alaska is during the summer months (May–September) when the weather is mild and most outdoor activities, including Segway and e-Bike tours, are available.
Are your tours suitable for cruise passengers?
Absolutely! Our Alaska cruise shore excursions are designed with cruise schedules in mind, ensuring you enjoy an unforgettable adventure while staying on time for your ship’s departure.
Do you provide bike rentals in Juneau, Alaska?
No, we do not offer rentals for bikes or segways. We offer 3-hour guided eBike and segway excursions!
As many of Juneau's most iconic locations are several miles from Downtown, we like to get away from the crowds and drive guests to those spots. This way they can save energy and enjoy their segway or biking experience in the actual location they want to see.
What's included in your Segway and e-Bike tours?
Guests on our Alaska Segway and eBike tours can always expect:
- Friendly and educated tour guides
- Transportation to and from the tour location, beginning at the meeting spot downtown
- Helmets, gloves, and rain ponchos (as needed)
- Proper training in how to use the segway or eBike
- An enjoyable ride in a beautiful location
- Water bottles and snacks
Are the tours family friendly?
Yes, our tours are suitable for most ages and skill levels. We're happy to have families of any size on our tours!
Due to safety regulations, we require participants to be within certain age ranges based for different tours:
- Alpine Segway: 13 to 72 years old
- Coastal Segway: 8 to 75 years old
- Rainforest eBike: 12 to 78 years old.
However, we frequently make exceptions for our guests based on height/weight/athletic ability. Please reach out to us via phone call and we'd be happy to find a solution that works for your family!
How long are your tours?
Each tour we operate runs 3 hours total, from the time our guides pick you up to when you're dropped off. If you have a tight schedule or extenuating circumstance, please reach out to us via phone or email and we'd be happy to discuss potential accommodations.
Where does the tour start?
All tours booked through the iRide website or a tour affiliate meet in front of the Mt. Roberts Tram building (under the cables). You will want to make sure you are outside the building on the side facing the road. Tours booked through a cruise ship will meet at their respective cruise ship dock.
All guests should arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to the tour time. An employee will be waiting at the location with a white sign reading "SEGWAY TOUR" or "EBIKE TOUR"
The Mt. Roberts Tram building is located at: 490 S Franklin St, Juneau, AK 99801
How difficult is the ride?
Segways and eBikes are both surprisingly easy to ride. Segways have self-balancing gyroscopes, allowing you to ride without stress. eBikes have the same setup as a regular bike and are simple to ride. Their electric boost actually makes riding easy & less labor intensive, allowing you to see more!
The tour paths themselves are specifically chosen with guests of all ability levels in mind. All tour paths are easy to follow and take place on paved concrete or well-maintained gravel trails.
PREPARATION AND SAFETY
Do I need experience to join a Segway or e-Bike tour?
No prior experience is required! Our guides provide a safety briefing and training session before the tour begins. The majority of our guests are first time segway/eBike riders, and we see them quickly learn how to ride each day!
Are your tours safe for families with children?
Absolutely! Safety is our top priority, especially for families. Our Alaska Segway Tours and e-Bike Excursions are designed to be safe and enjoyable for all ages. Children aged 10 and above are welcome to join our tours, ensuring the whole family can participate in the adventure. Safety gear is provided for parents and children alike.
Are your guides trained in first aid and emergency response?
Yes, all of our guides are trained in first aid and emergency response to handle any unexpected situations during your Alaska sightseeing tour or excursion. Families can rest assured knowing they are in capable hands throughout their adventure. Safety is our top priority.
What safety measures do you take during the tours?
Safety is our top priority! All guests are provided helmets and gloves to keep them safe. Our guides conduct a comprehensive safety briefing before every tour, covering the use of equipment, rules of the road, and how to navigate Alaska's terrain. Our routes are carefully chosen for minimal traffic and maximum safety.
What happens if someone in my family gets tired or needs assistance during the tour?
Our guided tours are designed to be flexible and accommodating. If someone in your group needs a break, our guides will adjust the pace or provide assistance. Since all tours are three hours long, we ensure there are opportunities to pause, enjoy the scenery, and recharge as needed.
Is there an age requirement for tours?
Due to safety regulations, we require participants to be within certain age ranges based for different tours:
- Alpine Segway: 13 to 72 years old
- Coastal Segway: 8 to 75 years old
- Rainforest eBike: 12 to 78 years old.
However, we frequently make exceptions for our guests based on height/weight/athletic ability. Please reach out to us via phone call and we'd be happy to find a solution that works for you!
What happens when it rains?
Alaska’s weather can be unpredictable, so we prepare for all conditions. The consistent rainfall in southeast Alaska is part of what makes the area so unique and beautiful.
In the event of rain, we provide our guests with gloves and ponchos, and we will adjust tour routes if necessary to ensure safety. The vast majority of our tours continue to run, even in the rain. Many guests have joined tours in the rain and still loved the experience!
Luckily, our tour locations are inside a "rain shadow" and are often dry, even when rain is falling downtown. If conditions become unsuitable, we offer rescheduling or alternative options for your family’s adventure.
How should I dress for the tour?
In Juneau, weather conditions can change rapidly. We encourage our guests to bring close-toed waterproof shoes and layer properly in case they encounter rain or cold weather on a tour. Guests frequently leave some clothing items with a tour guide during the excursion as the weather is better than expected.
Properly layering includes a moisture-wicking base layer (long sleeve althletic shirt/pants or similar), an insulating mid layer (fleece jacket, puffer vest, or similar), and a weatherproof out shell (waterproof jacket/pants).
BOOKING AND POLICIES
How far in advance should I book my tour?
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during peak season (May–September), to secure your preferred date and time.
What is your refund policy?
For guests who have booked through the iRide website, full refunds are provided for cancellations made at least 24 hours before the tour time. For tours booked through a cruise ship or tour affiliate, different refund policies may apply.
Do you offer group discounts or private tours?
Yes! We offer private tours and special rates for groups. Contact us for more details.
